SUBJECT
Recirculating Air Microfilter - Maintenance Replacement Interval
MODEL [NEW]
E70 (X5) since the start of production with option code 534 or 4NB (ZRC Package)
E71 (X6) since the start of production with option code 534 or 4NB (ZRC Package)
All E70 (X5) SAV and E71 (X6) SAC vehicles have a fresh air intake microfilter located in the engine compartment as standard equipment.
When these vehicles are equipped with option code:
534 - Automatic air conditioning; or
4NB - Automatic climate control with 4-zone control (included in ZRC - Rear climate package)
These vehicles have an additional recirculating air intake microfilter located inside the passenger compartment. Both microfilters have a required replacement interval that is in conjunction or connected with performing a primary maintenance service item. Fresh and recirculating air intake microfilter replacements are both included items in the BMW Maintenance Programs.
Note:
Most of the E70 and E71 vehicles manufactured and certified for distribution in the United States and Puerto Rico by BMW NA will contain one of the two options listed above.
[NEW] PROCEDURE
CBS Maintenance Services - Connected
The microfilter (fresh air) status will show "connected" with a primary maintenance service item in the DCSnet Service Advisory Module (SAM) display. Replace the fresh air microfilter when the primary maintenance service item status is either "recommended" or "due". Selecting the fresh air microfilter line item in SAM will display the corresponding KSD2 flat rate labor operation in the "Flat Rate No." field.
CBS Maintenance Services - Additional Jobs
Under "Vehicle Service Needs", the fresh air microfilter maintenance service item will contain the following conditional statement:
(Consider further additional job(s) if appropriate)
In E70 and E71 vehicles equipped with option code 534 or 4NB (ZRC), the necessary additional job or maintenance service item to consider is the replacement of recirculating air intake microfilter.
Besides replacing the fresh air microfilter, also replace the recirculating air intake microfilter when it is outfitted on the vehicle.
The recirculating air intake microfilter maintenance service item and the corresponding KSD2 flat rate labor operation will not show in the SAM display.
Claim both microfilters as described below and reset the CBS Data.
