Suspension - Knocks/Rattles From Vehicle Rear

SUBJECT
Rattle from Rear Suspension

MODEL
X6 xDrive35i (E71) produced from 1/08 to 8/08 with option ZSP (Sport Package)

SITUATION
The customer may complain of a rattle or knocking noise from the rear of the vehicle when driving over rough or uneven road surfaces.

CAUSE
Compression of the bushing supports at the upper shock absorber mount

PROCEDURE





Check and correct tire pressures as necessary. If the noise is present with the tires properly inflated, isolate the source of the noise using a ChassisEAR or other listening device. If the source of the noise is the upper shock mount, then the upper and lower bushing sections for both rear shock absorbers must be replaced. Refer to Repair Instruction RA 33 52 000, "Removing and installing/replacing rear left or right shock absorber".





PARTS INFORMATION

The replacement of the sealing grommet is only necessary when the grommet is damaged during removal of the shock absorber.
