AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E71 (X6) vehicles which were produced from May 5, 2008 to July 25, 2008.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. The chassis number ranges listed below are only for informational purposes, and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
Model Chassis Number Range
X6 LZ91561-LZ91753
CORRECTION
Check whether an AGM battery is installed in the vehicle. Install an AGM battery if necessary.
PROCEDURE
Check the part number on the vehicle battery. If the part number is 61 21 6 924 023 or 61 21 7 553 954, the vehicle can be reassembled; no further work is required.
If the part number is different, replace the battery with an AGM battery (refer to Repair Instruction REP 61 21 010).
After installation, register the replacement AGM battery using ISTA (Service Function / Body / Power supply / Battery / Registering battery change / test plan. Because an AGM battery is being installed, the
test plan will require that that a battery "retrofit" be performed with ISTA/P. Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 538. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-352) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 538 (2) printed on the
label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
