11 78 545 Removing and Installing/Replacing Monitor Sensor
11 78 545 Replacing both oxygen monitoring sensors (N52T)Special tools required:
^ 11 9 150
Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Work should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down.
Necessary preliminary work:
^ Remove rear underbody protection.
Installation:
The threads of new oxygen monitoring sensors are already coated with Never-Seez(R) Compound (refer to BMW Parts Service).
If a oxygen monitoring sensor is to be reused, apply a thin and even coating of Never-Seez(R) Compound to the thread only.
The part of the oxygen monitoring sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramics) must not be cleaned and not coated with lubricant.
Disconnect plug connection for oxygen monitoring sensor.
Release and tighten oxygen monitoring sensor (1) on exhaust manifold of cylinder nos. 1 to 3 with special tool (2) 11 9 150.
Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ.
Installation:
When special tool 11 9 150 is used, 47 Nm on torque wrench scale corresponds to an actual tightening torque of 50 Nm
Cable color of oxygen monitoring sensor (1), cylinders nos. 1 to 3 = black.
Disconnect plug connection for oxygen monitoring sensor.
Release oxygen monitoring sensor (1) on exhaust manifold of cylinder nos. 4 to 6.
Tighten with special tool (2) 11 9 150.
Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ.
Installation:
When special tool 11 9 150 is used, 47 Nm on torque wrench scale corresponds to an actual tightening torque of 50 Nm
Cable color of oxygen monitoring sensor (1), cylinders nos. 4 to 6 = grey.
Assemble engine.
Check function of DME.
