Precondition:
- Vehicle must be standing on its wheels on a level floor
- Properly fit fond door
- Only verify clear window gap after window lift has been removed
IMPORTANT: When closing, the door window glass must not jam on the trim strip in any area of the window (window glass breakage).
If necessary, incoming check:
Prior to any adjustments, perform the following incoming checks:
NOTE: Incoming check is performed while window cavity cover strip is installed.
- Denormalize power window
- Measure retraction depths with special tool 2 51 3 080
- 51 0 370Insert special tool in rotary striker and close rotary striker
- 51 0 342 Measure pretension with special tool
- Initialise power windows
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Denormalize power window
- Remove outer window cavity cover strip (not for checking pretension)
Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction:
Rear door window fixed:
Measure distance (A) from trim C-pillar (2), if necessary from tailgate window to fixed rear door window (1).
Distance (A):
A = 4.7 ± 0,8 mm with C pillar trim (2)
A =10 mm without C pillar trim (2)
Ideal adjustment, retraction depth:
Rear door window fixed:
- Open rear door
- Insert and hold special tool 51 3 080 onto door window glass and hold
- Close rear door
- Measure retraction depth
Measure retraction depth (C) in area (A).
Retraction depth (C):
A = 2.8 ± 0.7 mm
Distance from measuring point to window guide = 10 mm
NOTE: Reference point for retraction depth is edge of roof frame strip (1).
IMPORTANT: Rear door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof decorative strip (risk of damage)
Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction:
Adjustable rear door window:
Measure distance (A) from B-pillar trim(1) to rear door window glass (3).
Distance (A):
A = 8 ± 0.8 mm
B =50 mm from roof frame strip(2)
Ideal adjustment, retraction depth:
Adjustable rear door window:
- Open rear door
- Attach special tool 51 3 080 to door window glass
- Close rear door
- Measure retraction depth
NOTE: 2 51 3 080 items of special tool are required for adjustment of retraction depths.
Measure retraction depth (C) in areas (A and B).
Retraction depth (C):
A = 2.8 ± 0.7 mm
Gap between measuring point and window edge = 20 mm
B = 2.8 ± 0.7 mm
Distance from measuring point to window guide = 20 mm
NOTE: Reference point for retraction depth is edge of roof frame strip (1).
IMPORTANT: Front door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof decorative strip (risk of damage)
Adjusting longitudinal direction/retraction depth:
Rear door window fixed:
Slacken hook screws (1) 51 3 240 with special tool until door window glass can just be moved.
Use special tool 51 3 300 to reach through maintenance hole (2) and release collar nut (1).
Tightening torque: 51 35 3AZ
Mount special tool 51 3 220 to door window glass (1).
Use special tool 51 0 342 to measure door window glass (1) in longitudinal direction.
Adjust retraction depth of door window glass (1) in the area of window guide.
NOTE: When adjusting retraction depth, ensure door window glass (1) is supported by special tool 51 3 080.
Installation:
The specified torque moment 51 35 1AZ (MDE) is reduced when using special tool 51 3 240. Depending on the torque wrench used, this must be calculated in accordance with the adjacent overview:
MDE = Torque to be set
MDV = Prescribed torque (without special tool)
lj = Standard adjustment length with adjusting tool
11 = Effective length of torque wrench
12 = Inside dimension of adjusting tool
lw = Inside dimension of insertion tool (here lw = 246 mm+l2)
NOTE: If screwing is performed from the inside of the door (removed door trim panel), the tightening torque to be set 51 35 1AZ (without special tool) must be observed.
Tighten hook screw (1) 51 3 240with special tool.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Adjusting longitudinal direction/retraction depth:
Adjustable rear door window:
Slacken hook screws (1) 51 3 240 with special tool until door window glass can just be moved.
Attach special tool 51 3 010 to door window glass.
Measure and adjust longitudinal direction of door window glass to B-pillar trim with special tool 51 0 342.
Adjust retraction depth of door window glass(1) in B-pillar areas and window guide.
NOTE: When adjusting retraction depth, ensure door window glass is supported by special tool 51 3 080.
Installation:
The specified torque moment 51 35 1AZ (MDE) is reduced when using special tool 51 3 240. Depending on the torque wrench used, this must be calculated in accordance with the adjacent overview:
MDE = Torque to be set

Installation:
If screwing is performed from the inside of the door (removed door trim panel), the tightening torque to be set 51 35 1AZ (without special tool) must be observed.
Tighten hook screw (1) 51 3 240with special tool.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Ideal setting, preload:
NOTE: Check pre-tension with or without window cavity cover strip. Pretension is 1.0 mm less with window cavity cover strip. Magnet in special tool 51 0 370 creates the correct door window glass pre-tension on the seal system for measurement. No force must be exerted on the door or door window glass during measurement.
Insert special tool 51 0 370 (green) into rotary striker of door lock and manually close rotary striker (activation short stroke). Carefully close door.
Slide special tool 51 0 342 at distance (B) to door window glass side edge into seal () and measure dimension (A) to outside edge of door window glass (2).
Dimension (A) with window cavity cover strip:
A = 65 ±1 mm
Dimension (A) without window cavity cover strip:
A = 66 ± 1 mm
B = 10 mm
Adjust preload:
Slacken nut (3) with reversible ratchet (2) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, 51 3 303 and 51 3 304).
Turn knob (1) on special tool 51 3 300 to turn stud (4) and thereby alter the pre-tension.
Tighten nut (3).
Tightening torque 51 35 4AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Soft-Close-Automatic design:
To ensure the adjustment clearance in area (A), the bowden cable (1) of the Soft Close Automatic must lie in the recess in area (B) (risk of damage).
Bring rear door window glass into uppermost position.
Slacken nut (3) with reversible ratchet (2) of special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301, 51 3 303 and 51 3 304).
In the relaxed position of the adjustment device, use knob (1) of special tool 51 3 300 to block the pin (4).
Tighten nut (3).
Tightening torque 51 35 4AZ.
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
NOTE:
- After completing adjustment work, it is essential to initialise the power window unit.
- Checking run-in of door window glass:
