51 45 030 Removing And Installing Instrument Panel Trim







NOTE:
Observe the following instructions to facilitate removal of the instrument panel trim:
- Move front seats back completely and lower
- Move steering column into "lower" and "extended" position







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove trim panels for roof pillar at front
- Remove steering-column switch cluster
- Remove steering column shroud upper section/lower section
- Remove instrument cluster
- Remove radio and IHKA controls
- Remove light operating unit
- Remove folding compartment trim panel on driver's side
- Remove Central Information Display (CID)
- Remove central cover for dashboard
- Remove complete centre console
- Remove trim panel for pedal mechanism
- Remove folding compartment on driver's side
- Remove right glove box with housing In appropriate version:
- Remove cover for Head-Up Display







NOTE: Shown removed here for purposes of clarity. Wiring harness is therefore not included in graphic.

Disconnect plug connection (1) from front passenger airbag unit.
(Observe notes regarding Airbag plug connections).







Release screws (1).
Pull back instrument panel trim (2) and remove in direction of arrow.
Unlock plug connections behind and disconnect.







Installation note:
As repair solution "Dashboard squeaks and rattles", new oval-head dashboard screws (1) are available with a second washer under part number 07 14 9 240 740. If a new version has not yet been installed, retrofit the dashboard oval-head screws (1) on the top left and right on the dashboard (2).







Installation note:
Make sure guides (1) on instrument panel trim (2) are correctly seated in respective mountings.
Make sure gaskets are correctly seated on air ducts.
Make sure electrical leads are correctly laid.
If necessary, replace resilient sealing tape for VIN number inspection glass.
