Troubleshooting Hints - Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
NOTE:
The Automatic Transaxle Control can be overridden manually with the use of an access hole in the right side of the center console. This is done by depressing the white tab on the ATC with the Ignition Switch in the "OFF" position or with the brake pedal depressed. The Ignition Lock Solenoid can be overridden with the use of an access hole in the bottom side of the lower steering column cover.

1. Place Ignition Switch in "RUN." Verify PRNDL indicator is illuminated. If PRNDL indicator does not illuminate, refer to Instrument Panel first.
2. Check ERLS and PRNDL fuses by visual inspection.
3. Make sure G200 is clean and tight.
4. If Gear Selector does not shift out of "PARK," make sure the linkage is properly adjusted.
5. Verify brake lamp operation. If brake lamps do not operate, see Lighting and Horns. Lighting and Horns
6. Refer to Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock access and additional information.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure, but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check (refer to Diagnostic Aids for General Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
