Front Suspension







^ Tool Required:
- J 29330 Ball Joint Separator
- Or Equivalent

REMOVAL
Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Raise vehicle.
2. If suspension contact hoist is used:
^ Place jack stands under uni-body frame near suspension supports.
^ Lower vehicle slightly so weight of vehicle rests on the under uni-body frame and not on the control arms or suspension supports.
3. Tire and wheel assembly.
4. Nut attaching stabilizer link to stabilizer shaft.
5. Nuts attaching stabilizer shaft clamp to suspension support.

CAUTION: Care must be exercised to prevent drive axle joints from being over-extended. When either end of the shaft is disconnected, over-extension of the joint could result in separation of internal components and possible joint failure. Failure to observe this can result in interior joint or seal damage and possible joint failure.

6. Ball joint cotter pin and nut,
7. Separate ball joint from knuckle using J 29330.

CAUTION: Use only the recommended tool for separating the ball joint from knuckle. Failure to use the recommended tool may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.

8. Bolts attaching suspension support to vehicle.
9. Bolts attaching control arm to suspension support.

INSTALLATION
Install or connect the following:
1. Control arm into position and loosely install bolts attaching control arm to suspension support.
2. Suspension support into position, guiding ball joint into steering knuckle, and loosely install bolts.
3. Nuts attaching stabilizer shaft clamp to suspension support.
^ Tighten nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
4. Nut attaching ball joint to steering knuckle. Tighten to specifications.
5. Cotter pin.
^ Tighten nut to 75 Nm (55 lb ft) plus 60° rotation.
6. Nut attaching stabilizer link to stabilizer shaft
^ Tighten nut to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
7. If suspension contact hoist is used:
^ Slightly raise vehicle.
^ Remove jack stands from under suspension supports.
8. Tire and wheel assembly.
9. With vehicle at curb height, tighten the suspension support attaching bolts in sequence as follows:
^ Center bolts first to 120 Nm (89 lb ft).
^ Front bolts second to 120 Nm (89 lb ft).
^ Rear bolts third to 120 Nm (89 lb ft).
10. With vehicle at curb height, tighten control arm attaching bolts to specifications.
^ Tighten Control Arm to Suspension Support Bolts (Front Bushing) 120 Nm (89 lb ft).
^ Control Arm to Suspension Support Bolts (Rear Vertical Bushing) 170 Nm (125 lb ft).
11. Check front wheel alignment.
