Check Engine Oil Level
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the operation of the LOW OIL indicator. The following is a list of event that must take place, in this exact order, for the PCM to take a reading of the engine oil level:
1. The engine must be started.
2. The engine coolant temperature must be allowed to reach 15-90°C (59-194°F).
3. The engine must be turned off.
4. The engine coolant temperature must be allowed to cool down a minimum of 12°C (22°F).
5. The ignition switch must be turned back to on. At this point, the PCM reads the engine oil level. The engine cool down period allows ample time for the engine oil to drain back into the oil pan. If none of the specific criteria are met as described above, the PCM will not read the engine oil level.
