Brakes - Front Brake Moan/Groan on Low Speed Application

Bulletin No.: 05-05-23-006

Date: August 02, 2005

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Front Brake Moan and/or Groan Noise During Brake Apply (Replace Front Brake Pads)

Models:
2005 Buick Allure (Canada Only), LaCrosse
2005 Pontiac Grand Prix (Excluding GXP Models)

Built prior to 4/1/05

Condition

Some customers may comment that they hear a moan and/or groan noise during brake apply, usually below speeds of 48 km/h (30 mph). The noise may only be noticed after multiple brake applications.

Cause

After approximately 1600 km (1000 miles) and multiple brake applications, a film may build up on the front rotor surface, possibly resulting in a moan and/or groan noise. The noise will only be present after the rotors have began to warm up.

Correction

1. Road test the vehicle and confirm that the noise is coming from the front brakes.

Important:
The new chamfered double vertical cut brake pads, P/N 19121389, will continuously clean the rotor surface of film build-up. It is not necessary or recommended to resurface the front rotors for this condition.

2. Replace the front brake pads.

3. Road test and burnish the pads and rotors.
