Removal

PCM REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

Notice: To prevent internal PCM damage, the ignition switch must be in the LOCK position when disconnecting or reconnecting power to the PCM, as when battery cables, PCM connectors or fuses are connected or disconnected. Due to system requirements, the ignition switch powers the PCM ON in all key positions except LOCK.

Removal Procedure
1. Record the Transaxle Fluid and Engine Oil Life Left Indexes.

Important: The key must be in the LOCK position for a minimum of 30 seconds prior to disconnecting power to the PCM. This is to allow the PCM to store the Transaxle fluid life, transaxle shift adapts and Throttle Position Learned value into the EEPROM. Failure to wait the 30 seconds may result in a EEPROM reset a DTC P1526 and the Transaxle fluid life being reset to 0.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Loosen the Intake Air duct clamp at the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the air cleaner assembly.

4. Remove the Intake Air duct.

5. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector.

Air Cleaner Assembly:

6. Remove the air cleaner assembly (image reference 1) from the air inlet housing (image reference 2).

Air Inlet Housing:

7. Lift the air inlet assembly (1) onto the front end sheet metal by pulling firmly straight up.

Accessing PCM:

8. Open the air inlet housing (4) to gain access to the PCM (2).

9. Loosen the connector attaching bolts.

10. Disconnect both PCM connectors (1 and 5).

^ If installing a replacement PCM, the Knock Sensor (KS) module will have to be transferred from the original PCM to the replacement PCM. Refer to Knock Sensor Module / Service and Repair.

^ If installing a replacement PCM, the PCM Isolators (3) will have to be transferred to the replacement PCM.
