Substandard or Contaminated Brake Fluid

Use only brake fluid GM P/N 1052535 or equivalent DOT 3 fluid. DO NOT use the following fluids:
- DO NOT use power steering fluid.
- DO NOT use automatic transmission fluid.
- DO NOT use DOT 5 silicone hydraulic brake fluid.

The use of an improper fluid or one contaminated with mineral oil or with water may cause the fluid to boil or the rubber components in the brake hydraulic system to deteriorate. Inspect the following components for this deterioration:
- Inspect for swollen brake caliper seals. Replace the swollen brake caliper steals.
- Inspect for swollen cover seal. Replace the swollen cover seal.
- Inspect for swollen brake hoses. Replace the swollen brake hoses.
Flush the entire brake system if rubber deterioration is evident. Refer to Brakes.
