Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Courtesy Lamps

The courtesy lamps come on when any door is opened with the ignition off (if there is low ambient light), when either the driver's or passenger's door is manually unlocked (if there is low ambient light), or when selected by the interior lamp switch. The courtesy lamps will also remain on for 20 seconds after all doors have been closed.

The Body Control Module (PZM) controls the courtesy lamps by turning Courtesy Lamps Relay "A" on and off based on inputs from the courtesy lamp switch, door latch switches. ignition switch, and the twilight photocell. Battery voltage is applied during Inadvertent Power through the INT LPS Fuse to the coil side of Courtesy Lamps Relay "A." When the PZM receives a signal to activate the courtesy lamps, it provides ground for the coil of Courtesy Lamps Relay "A." The coil is energized closing the switch contacts. Ground is then provided for the courtesy lamps and they light.
