Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant.





2. Remove the evaporator tube extension bolt.





3. Remove the LF floor air outlet duct.





4. Remove the vacuum solenoid/cutoff valve actuator screws.
5. Disconnect the actuator connectors.
6. Position the actuators out of the way.





7. Remove the evaporator access panel screws.
8. Remove the evaporator access panel.





9. Remove the evaporator tube screw.
10. Remove the evaporator tube





11. Remove the Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) screws.
12. Remove the TXV.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the TXV.
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
2. Install the TXV screws.

Tighten
Tighten the TXV screws to 8 N.m (71 lb in).





3. Install the evaporator tube:
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
4. Install the evaporator tube screw.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 5 N.m (44 lb in).





5. Install the evaporator access panel.
6. Install the evaporator access panel screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws until fully seated and not stripped.





7. Position the vacuum solenoid/cutoff valve actuators.
8. Install the vacuum solenoid/cutoff valve actuator screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws until fully seated and not stripped.

9. Connect the actuator connectors.





10. Install the LF floor air outlet.





11. Install the evaporator tube extension bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
13. Leak test the A/C system.
