Shift Linkage: Adjustments
SHIFT LEVER ROD ADJUSTMENTCAUTION: The epoxy adhesive may cause skin irritations and eye damage. Read and follow all of the information on the container label as provided by the manufacturer.
NOTICE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part numbers for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
1. Position shift control lever in PARK.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Loosen the adjustment bolt (1) enough to allow the adjuster to slide freely.
4. Hold the selector lever on transmission against rear stop to eliminate any play.
^ Tighten the shift level rod adjustment bolt to 8 Nm (71 lb in).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Inspect the operation of starting system with shift lever in each position. The engine should only crank when the lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL.
