Fuel Cap

The FUEL CAP warning lamp will illuminate and start to flash, when the engine management system detects a leak in the fuel tank during the first drive cycle. This would be directly related to a fuel cap that is not fully tightened, is missing or improperly installed. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the illumination of the fuel cap warning lamp. The lamp will continue to flash until the following occurs.
^ The engine is stopped.
^ Another fault is detected during the same drive cycle that is not related to leak detection.

The fuel cap warning lamp does not flash when the same fuel tank leak is detected during second drive cycle. The CHECK ENGINE lamp will illuminate when a leak is detected during the second drive cycle. There are no DTCs associated with the illumination of the fuel cap warning lamp.
