Damping Bushing Replacement - Rear

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 21474-01 Control Arm Bushing Set
- J 42112 Rear Differential Bushing Kit






1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Lower the differential. Refer to Differential Replacement.
3. Remove the engine fuel filter retaining strap.






4. Suspend the engine fuel filter (1) to one side.
5. Perform the following steps using J21474-01 to press out the bushing(s):

Important: The rear differential bushings are removed from the inside outward. Once the rear differential bushings are removed they are not reusable.

5.1. Install the J 21474-5 Bushing Receiver onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
5.2. Insert the assembly through the bushing from the outside of the bushing.
5.3. Install the J 42112-4 Bushing Driver/Remover onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
5.4. Install the J 21474-18 3/8-inch nut onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
6. Hold the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt while tightening the J 21474-18 3/8-inch nut until the bushing is removed.

Installation Procedure






1. The bushing must be installed with the correct orientation as shown.






2. Perform the following steps to install the bushing:
2.1. Fit the J 21474-5 Bushing Receiver onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
2.2. Insert the above assembly through the bushing bore from the inside outward.
2.3. Position the bushing onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
2.4. Then, into the bushing bore.
2.5. Install the J 42112-5 Bushing Driver/lnstaller onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
2.6. Install the J 21474-18 3/8-inch nut onto the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
2.7. Draw the bushing into the bore with the correct orientation by holding the J 21474-18 3/8-inch nut stationary while tightening the J 21474-19 3/8-inch bolt.
2.8. The bushing is positioned when the J 42112-5 Bushing Driver/Installer bottoms on the rear cross-member.






3. Measure the distance between the inside surfaces of the bushings as shown. The distance should be between 300-302 mm (11.81 in and 11.88 inch).
4. Remove the tools.






5. Reposition the engine fuel filter.
6. Fasten the engine fuel filter retaining strap around the filter.
7. Install the differential. Refer to Differential Replacement.
8. Lower the vehicle.
