Model and Year: 1983 CHEVROLET CAMAROS EQUIPPED WITH RPO LQ9 2.5L L4 (VIN CODE 2) ENGINE AND FIVE SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS:
General Motors has determined that the Electronic Control Modules (ECM) of some 1983 Chevrolet Camaro models equipped with RPO LQ9 2.5L L-4 (VIN Code 2) engine and 5-speed manual transmission without air conditioning were incorrectly built. To correct this condition a new PROM will be installed in the Electronic Control Module (ECM).
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1983 Chevrolet Camaros equipped with RPO LQ9 2.5L L4 (VIN Code 2) engine and five speed manual transmission less air conditioning within the following parameters:

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. Computer listings contain the complete Vehicle Identification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign.
These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin was not shipped any involved vehicles.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Chevrolet Motor Division (see copy of Owner Letter included with this bulletin).
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicles or ownership, from this time forward.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new or used vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts required to complete this modification are to be obtained from your Chevrolet Zone Service Department. Parts kits will be furnished on a no charge basis. The parts are in limited supply; therefore, dealers are to request only those parts which are needed.
Parts are not to be ordered from or returned to General Motors Warehousing and Distribution Division (GMWDD).

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open hood.
2. Replacement PROM (P/N 1226503) should be installed on ECM according to instructions contained in 1983 Camaro Shop Manual, Section 6E, page 2-70.
3. Affix new broadcast Code label (CHM) over the old label.
4. Install campaign completion label and close hood.
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL:
Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.
Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.
Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.
CLAIM INFORMATION
Submit a Product Campaign Claim with the information indicated below:

**The $7.28 in the "Parts Allowance" column represents the 30% for parts when furnished no charge by Chevrolet.
Dealers will automatically receive the correct labor and material allowance based on the labor operation performed.

Dear Chevrolet Owner:
General Motors has determined that the Electronic Control Modules (ECM) of some 1983 Chevrolet Camaro models equipped with 2.5L engine and 5-speed manual transmission without air conditioning were incorrectly built.
To correct this condition on your vehicle a new PROM will be installed in the Electronic Control Module (ECM). This service will be performed at no charge to you.
Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your Chevrolet dealer. The labor time required to make this modification is approximately 30 minutes. Parts are available at your dealership. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.
The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us so that we may update our records.
