Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

MECHANICAL PUMP






REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the fuel inlet hose from the pump.
2. Remove the heat shield.
3. Disconnect the fuel outlet and return hoses.
4. Remove two 1/2 inch hex head bolts or nuts, using a 3/8 inch drive deep socket and a ratchet handle.
5. Remove fuel pump.






Installation

1. Install new fuel pump with new gasket.
2. Install two 1/2 inch hex head bolts, turning them a]ternately and evenly.
3. Install fuel outlet pipe. Tighten fitting securely, while holding fuel pump nut with a wrench.
4. Install the heat shield.
5. Install the fuel inlet and return hoses.
6. Start engine and check for leaks.
