Engine: Service and Repair


EXC. 16 VALVE ENGINE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain coolant and engine oil.
3. Drain transmission fluid.
4. Mark hood hinges, then remove hood.
5. Remove air cleaner assembly.
6. Disconnect upper radiator hose at outlet and overflow hose.
7. Disconnect coolant hose at cylinder head rear coolant pipe.
8. Disconnect coolant hose at thermostat housing.
9. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
10. Mark, then disconnect all vacuum lines and electrical connectors from engine assembly.
11. Remove drive belts.
12. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle assembly.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
15. Disconnect air hose from converter pipe, if applicable.
16. Disconnect transaxle cooler lines from radiator.
17. Remove left and righthand under covers.
18. Remove power steering pump and A/C compressor, if equipped and position aside.
19. Disconnect cable and bracket from transaxle.
20. Disconnect steering knuckles from lower control arms.
21. Disconnect driveshafts from transaxle.
22. Remove flywheel cover.
23. Remove flex plate to torque converter attaching bolts.
24. Disconnect front and rear mounting from center crossmember.
25. Disconnect cable and remove center member.
26. Lower vehicle.
27. Remove radiator and fan assembly.
28. Install suitable engine lifting equipment on to engine lifting eyes.
29. Remove righthand motor mount through bolt.
30. Remove lefthand transaxle mount bolt and mount.
31. Remove engine and transaxle as an assembly.
32. Reverse procedure to install.
