Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

Cylinder Head Sequence:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system and engine block.
2. Remove intake manifold and exhaust manifolds.
3. Remove alternator lower mounting bolt and position alternator aside.
4. If equipped with A/C, remove compressor and forward mounting bracket and position aside.
5. Remove rocker arm cover, rocker arms and pushrods.

NOTE: Keep rocker arm, rocker arm balls and pushrods in order so they can be installed in the same position.

6. Remove diverter valve.
7. Remove cylinder head bolts and cylinder head.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Apply suitable sealer to cylinder head bolts and gradually torque bolts to specifications.
