The coolant sensor sends a signal to the instrument cluster that is related to coolant temperature. The coolant temperature sender resistance changes with engine temperature. Resistance drops from 1400 ohms to 84 ohms (100 F. to 260 F.). The microprocessor converts this signal and actuates a 16 segment bar graph which displays engine coolant temperature.
