Fuel Tank/ Fuel Sending Unit Replacement

Removal

1. Remove all fuel.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. Support fuel tank and disconnect the two fuel tank retaining straps.
4. Lower tank enough to disconnect sending unit wire, hoses and ground strap if so equipped.
5. Remove tank from vehicle.







6. Remove sending unit retainer cam using J 24187.
7. Remove sending unit from tank.

Installation

1. Reverse removal procedure.
2. Always replace "O" ring gasket when tank unit has been removed.

Notice: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict fuel flow. Also, assure that strainer does not block full travel of float arm.

3. When reinstalling fuel tank be sure to reinstall anti-squeak pieces on top of the tank to reduce rattles and other annoying noises.
4. To keep tank flange from grounding out against tank strap bracket, install LH tank strap before RH tank strap and take care to assure that rubber spacer is properly installed before torquing strap.
5. Tighten fuel tank retaining strap bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
