Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
Fig. 4 Cylinder head installation:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain engine coolant into suitable container.
3. Remove air inlet duct from Throttle Body Injection (TBI) unit.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold, then the heater hose from intake manifold.
6. Remove accelerator and T.V. cable bracket.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Disconnect any vacuum lines interfering with cylinder head removal from intake manifold and thermostat housing.
9. Disconnect linkage at TBI unit.
10. Disconnect necessary wiring.
11. Disconnect upper radiator from thermostat housing.
12. Remove accessory drive belt.
13. Remove power steering pump and position aside.
14. Disconnect fuel lines.
15. Remove alternator and alternator rear brace, leaving wires attached and position aside.
16. Remove rocker arm cover, then the rocker arms and pushrods. Keep rocker arms and pushrods in order so they can be reinstalled in position they were removed from.
17. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts, then the cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifolds as an assembly.
18. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to Fig. 4, for bolt tightening sequence and torque values.
