Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove air cleaner, mounting bracket, MAF sensor and air tube as an assembly.
3. Remove exhaust crossover bolts at RH manifold, then LH manifold bolts at cylinder head. If necessary, raise and support manifold / crossover assembly.
4. Disconnect T.V. cable from throttle lever and transaxle, then transaxle to vent pipe rubber hose.
5. Disconnect shift cable from transaxle.
6. Disconnect neutral start switch and TCC electrical connectors.
7. Remove fluid level indicator and fill tube.
8. Install engine support fixture J-28467 and adapter J-35953 or equivalent.
9. Remove nut attaching wiring harness from transaxle.
10. Remove transaxle mount through bolt, then mount bracket and mount from transaxle.
11. Remove upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove both front wheels, then LH splash shield.
13. Remove transaxle converter cover, then scribe alignment marks on flexplate and torque converter for reassembly.
14. Remove torque converter to flexplate attaching bolts.
15. Remove torsional strut and lateral strut from transaxle, then transaxle bracket bolts.
16. Disconnect speedometer connector from transaxle, then shift cable bracket.
17. Install drive axle boot seal protectors J-34754 or equivalent on inner seals. Failure to install seal protectors can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
18. Remove both drive axles.
19. Remove left stabilizer bar link pin bolt, left stabilizer bar frame bushing attaching nuts, then the left frame support assembly.
20. Remove transaxle cooler lines. Plug lines to prevent leakage or dirt from entering system.
21. Position a suitable jack under transaxle, then remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
22. Remove transaxle assembly from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque converter to flexplate attaching bolts to 46 ft lbs.
b. Torque transaxle to engine mounting bolts to 55 ft lbs.
c. Torque transaxle mount bolts to 40 ft lbs, transaxle mount nuts to 23 ft lbs and transaxle mount through bolts to 82 ft lbs.
d. Readjust T.V. cable and shift linkage.
e. Check for proper oil level and leaks.
f. Check front suspension alignment.
