A/T - 140E/130L/131L Bind-Up On 1-2 Shift

SUBJECT: 140E, 130L, 131L

PROBLEM: Bind up on 1-2 shift

CAUSE: # 2 Sprag in backwards

Many manuals show the correct rotation of the # 2 sprag, but do not show which side of the gear train to look at.

Looking through the transmission case, the rear planetary gear should freewheel clockwise, and lock counterclockwise.




Looking at the rear of the gear train, the planetary carrier should lock clockwise, and freewheel counterclockwise. (See Figure A.)
