Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect air intake hose from air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect shift cable from transaxle.
4. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
5. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum diaphragm.
6. Disconnect engine wiring harness clamp from transaxle.
7. Disconnect ground cable from transaxle.
8. Mark, then disconnect all electrical connectors from transaxle assembly.
9. Disconnect, then cap transaxle fluid lines.
10. Remove three upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
11. Raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove both front wheel and tire assemblies.
13. Remove splash shield.
14. Disconnect both tie rod ends at steering knuckle.
15. Remove both tension rod brackets, then disconnect tension rods from control arms.
16. Disconnect both driveshaft assemblies from transaxle.
17. Remove flywheel dust cover.
18. Remove converter to flywheel attaching bolts.
19. Remove rear mount through bolts from transaxle assembly.
20. Remove starter motor.
21. Position a suitable jack under transaxle assembly.
22. Remove lower transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
23. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install. Torque transaxle to engine attaching bolts to 56 ft. lbs. Torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
