Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Testing and Inspection


NO SHIFT FROM D1 TO 2

1. Incorrectly adjusted shift linkage.
2. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum diaphragm or rod.
4. Faulty control valve or governor valve.

NO SHIFT FROM D2 TO 3

1. Incorrectly adjusted shift linkage.
2. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum diaphragm or rod.
4. Faulty control valve or governor valve.

SHIFT POINTS TOO HIGH OR LOW D1 TO 2 SHIFT

1. Damaged or disconnected solenoid wiring.
2. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
3. Incorrectly adjusted kickdown switch or damaged and/or disconnected wiring.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty down shift solenoid.
6. Damaged or disconnected vacuum diaphragm or rod.
7. Faulty control valve or governor valve.

SHIFT POINTS TOO HIGH OR LOW D2 TO 3 SHIFT

1. Faulty solenoid wiring.
2. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
3. Incorrectly adjusted kickdown switch or damaged and/or disconnected wiring.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty downshift solenoid.
6. Faulty vacuum diaphragm or control rod.
7. Faulty control valve or governor valve.

SLIPS OUT OF 2ND GEAR

1. Faulty or incorrectly adjusted linkage.
2. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
3. Faulty control valve.
4. Faulty band servo and brake band.

NO KICKDOWN

1. Faulty solenoid wiring.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
4. Faulty kickdown switch and/or wiring.
5. Faulty downshift solenoid.
6. Faulty control valve.

VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR POSITION

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Loose or missing torque converter mounting bolts.
4. Damaged ring gear.
5. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
6. Damaged torque converter.
7. Faulty oil pump and/or control valve.
8. Damaged transaxle shafts.

VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN D

1. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
2. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
3. Faulty oil pump.
4. Faulty control valve.
5. Faulty one-way clutch.
6. Faulty rear clutch.

VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN D2

1. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
2. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
3. Faulty control valve.
4. Faulty band servo or brake band.

VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN REVERSE

1. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
2. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
3. Defective oil pump.
4. Faulty control valve.
5. Faulty low-reverse brake.
6. Faulty front clutch.
7. Faulty rear clutch.

VEHICLE MOVES IN NEUTRAL

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Faulty rear clutch.

VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN ANY FORWARD GEAR

1. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
2. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
3. Defective oil pump.
4. Faulty control valve.
5. Defective front clutch.

SLIPS WHEN SHIFTING FROM N TO D

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty vacuum diaphragm or rod.
6. Faulty control valve.
7. Defective rear clutch.

SLIPS WHEN SHIFTING FROM P-R, N-R

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty vacuum diaphragm or rod.
6. Defective oil pump.
7. Faulty control valve.
8. Faulty low-reverse brake.
9. Faulty front clutch.

SLIPS IN DRIVE

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty vacuum diaphragm or rod.
6. Defective torque converter.
7. Defective oil pump.
8. Faulty control valve.
9. Defective one-way clutch.
10. Defective rear-clutch.

SLIPS IN 1 OR 2

1. Faulty band servo or brake band.
2. Faulty low-reverse brake.
3. Faulty rear clutch.

SLIPS IN REVERSE

1. Incorrect transaxle fluid level.
2. Incorrectly adjusted linkage.
3. Damaged or disconnected vacuum lines.
4. Abnormal hydraulic pressures.
5. Faulty vacuum diaphragm or rod.
6. Faulty torque converter.
7. Defective oil pump.
8. Defective control valve.
9. Defective low-reverse brake.
10. Defective front clutch.

VIBRATION IN DRIVE

1. Loose or broken torque converter mounting bolts.
2. Damaged ring gear.
3. Damaged torque converter.

NOISE IN NEUTRAL & PARK

1. Loose or broken torque converter mounting bolts.
2. Damaged torque converter.
3. Defective oil pump.
