Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Adjustments
Fig. 5 Lock plate position:
BACK DRIVE SOLENOID
1. Shift selector lever to Park range.
2. Adjust solenoid position so that solenoid operates as follows:
a. When ignition switch is turned OFF (solenoid is not operated) and ON (solenoid is operated), lock plate should be positioned as shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 6 Checking lock plate to guide plate clearance:
b. There should be no clearance between lock plate and guide plate as shown in Fig. 6.
3. After adjusting solenoid position, tighten solenoid screws.
4. After tightening solenoid screws, check the following:
a. When ignition switch is turned OFF, selector lever is locked in Park range and cannot be shifted into any other range.
b. When ignition switch is turned ON, selector lever can be shifted into any other range.
c. If manual release knob is pulled with ignition switch turned OFF, selector lever can be shifted into any other range.
Fig. 7 Adjusting back drive cable:
BACK DRIVE CABLE
1. Shift selector lever to Park range.
2. Loosen nuts (A) and (B) as shown in Fig. 7.
3. With outer wire pulled forward so that there is no deflection on inner wire, tighten nut (A) hand-tight, then (B) nut.
4. Tighten nuts (A) and (B) again, then note the following:
a. With selector lever in Park range, ensure that ignition key can be turned from ACC to LOCK position and removed from ignition switch.
b. With selector lever shifted in any drive range other than P, ignition key cannot be turned from ACC to LOCK position.
Fig. 8 Adjusting accelerator cable:
ACCELERATOR CABLE
To adjust accelerator cable, loosen locknut, then turn adjusting nut until cable play is as specified in Fig. 8.
Fig. 9 Adjusting oil pressure control cable:
OIL PRESSURE CONTROL CABLE
1. Check and, if necessary, adjust accelerator cable.
2. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
3. Remove control cable cover and check that boot to inner cable stopper clearance is 0-.020 inch as shown, Fig. 9.
4. If clearance is not as specified, loosen, then tighten adjusting nuts (A) until specified clearance is obtained. If clearance is still not within specification, turn adjusting nuts (B) and repeat procedure outlined above.
