Subject: EXCESSIVE STATIC ON AM RADIO BAND
Model and Year: 1988 CAVALIER Z24
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Some 1988 Z24 Cavaliers without underhood lamp option U26 may have an excessive amount of static on the AM Band of the radio. The frequency of this static is directly related to engine rpm. It is caused by normal engine radio frequency emitted through the hood to the radio antenna.
The condition may be corrected by installing a new hood hinge bolt Part Number 10018897 in the left hood hinge. See illustration.
The bolt may be installed in either the front or rear position. This will provide a proper ground path for the hood to act as a radio frequency shield as designed.
