Engine: Service and Repair



REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery cables from battery
2. Air cleaner and inlet hose and mass air flow sensor
3. Drain cooling system
4. Exhaust manifold/crossover assembly
5. Serpentine, belt tensioner and belt
6. Power steering pump and lay aside
7. Idler if equipped
8. Radiator hose at the engine
9. Accelerator and T.V. cable at throttle valve bracket at plenum
10. Generator and lay aside
11. Wiring harness at engine
12. Fuel hoses
13. Coolant bypass and overflow hoses at the engine
14. Canister purge hose at the canister
15. Necessary vacuum hoses
16. Support engine with engine holding fixture J-28467
17. Raise vehicle.
18. Right inner fender splash shield
19. Harmonic balancer
20. Flywheel cover
21. Starter bolts
22. Electrical wires at starter and remove the starter
23. Wires at oil sending unit
24. A/C compressor and related bracket
25. Exhaust pipe at rear of manifold
26. Flywheel-to-torque converter bolts
27. Front and rear motor mount bolts
28. Engine front and rear mount brackets
29. Intermediate shaft bracket to engine
30. Disconnect shift cable bracket at transaxle
31. Lower bellhousing bolts
32. Lower vehicle
33. Heater hoses at the engine.
34. Install engine lifting device.
35. Remove holding fixture.
36. Support transaxle with suitable jack.
37. Upper bellhousing bolts.
38. Front mount bolts.
39. Transaxle mount bracket.
40. Engine

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Engine
2. Engine holding fixture
3. Remove engine lifting device.
4. Upper bellhousing bolts
5. Transaxle mount bracket
6. Remove transaxle jack
7. Heater hoses onto engine
8. Raise vehicle
9. Engine front and rear mount brackets
10. Intermediate shaft bracket to engine
11. Engine mount bolts
12. Lower bellhousing bolts
13. Shift cable bracket at transaxle
^ If rear engine mount bracket is removed, the following procedure should be used to insure proper engine mount bracket location.
a. Loosely install engine mount bracket
b. Raise engine and transaxle
c. Torque engine mount nuts and bolts
14. Transaxle to engine bolts
15. Flywheel to torque converter bolts
16. Exhaust pipe at rear of manifold
17. Air conditioning compressor and related brackets and bolt
18. Wires at oil sending unit
19. Electrical wires at starter and install starter
20. Flywheel cover
21. Harmonic balancer
22. Right inner fender splash shield
23. Lower vehicle
24. Necessary vacuum lines and electrical wires
25. Canister purge hose at the canister
26. Coolant bypass and overflow hoses at the engine
27. Fuel hoses
28. Generator and wires
29. Accelerator and T.V. cable at throttle valve
30. Radiator hose at the engine
31. Idler if equipped
32. Serpentine belt
33. Exhaust crossover/exhaust manifold assembly
34. Mass air flow sensor and air cleaner
35. Fill cooling system
36. Battery

INSPECT
^ Engine oil level
^ Leaks
