Shift Linkage: Adjustments

1984---88 CORVETTE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove left seat, disconnecting electrical connectors as needed.
3. Remove shift knob, console cover and glove box lock.
4. Remove left console side panel and shifter cover.
5. Loosen front and rear adjuster nut on each shift rod.
6. Ensure that transmission is in neutral, align shifter levers in neutral position, then insert gauge pin through lever alignment holes, Fig. 3.
7. Equalize swivels on each shift rod, hand tightening front and rear adjuster nuts simultaneously.
8. Simultaneously torque front and rear adjuster nuts on each shift rod to 20---30 ft. lbs.
9. Remove gauge pin and check shifter operation.
10. Reinstall components removed to gain access to shifter.
