This Service Manual Update replaces the strut disassemble/assemble procedure found in Section 3C, page 3C-4 and Figure 7 on page 3C-5.
DISASSEMBLE/ASSEMBLE STRUT
Disassemble
Tools Required:
J 3289-20 Holding Fixture Bench Mount
J 34013-A Strut Spring Compressor
J 34013-97 Upper Strut Spring Compressor Adapter
J 34018-88 Lower Strut Spring Compressor Adapter
* Attach a J 34013-97 upper strut spring compressor adapter to J 34013-A strut spring compressor with the 4 wing nuts.
* Attach a J 34013-88 lower strut spring compressor adapter to J 34013-A strut spring compressor with the compressor lock pins.
* Ensure strut is positioned on J 34013-A strut spring compressor with the "OUT" stamping on-the spring seat facing outward.
1. Strut rod piston nut cover.
2. Strut rod piston nut.
3. Suspension support.
* Release compressed spring using a J 34013-A strut spring compressor.
4. Dust seal, spring seat, upper insulator, coil spring, and lower insulator.
Assemble
Tools Required:
J 3289-20 Holding Fixture Bench Mount J 34013-A Strut Spring Compressor Adapter J 34013-97 Upper Strut Spring Compressor Adapter J 34018-88 Lower Strut Spring Compressor Adapter
* Ensure shock absorber is positioned on J 34013-A strut spring compressor with the knuckle mounting holes facing outward.
1. Lower insulator, coil spring, upper insulator, spring seat, and dust seal.
* Ensure the spring seat is installed with the "OUT" stamping facing outward.
* Compress the coil spring using a J 34013-A strut spring compressor.
2. Suspension support.
3. Strut rod piston nut.
Tighten
* Strut rod piston nut to 47 N-m (34 ft.lbs.)
4. Strut rod piston nut cover.
* Release compressed coil spring using a J 34013-A strut spring compressor.
