Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, then remove air cleaner.
3. Disconnect throttle valve assembly.
4. Disconnect heater hose from intake manifold, then the thermostat housing from cylinder head.
5. Disconnect coolant hose from thermostat housing, then the distributor from cylinder head.
6. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
7. Support engine using a suitable jack, then remove right engine mount.
8. Disconnect all vacuum hoses, lines and electrical connectors necessary for engine removal. On models equipped with turbocharger, depressurize fuel system.
9. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
10. Disconnect flex hose from exhaust manifold.
11. Disconnect lower radiator hose from engine block.
12. Remove A/C compressor drive belt and power steering pump drive belt, as equipped.
13. Remove upper starter attaching bolt.
14. Raise and support vehicle.
15. Drain crankcase and remove oil filter.
16. Disconnect oil temperature switch electrical connector.
17. Disconnect exhaust pipe bracket from cylinder block.
18. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
19. Unfasten A/C compressor, if equipped, and position aside, leaving refrigerant lines attached.
20. Remove flywheel cover and the converter attaching bolts.
21. Disconnect starter wire and remove starter motor.
22. Install flywheel holder tool No. J-35271 or equivalent.
23. Disconnect alternator electrical connectors.
24. Remove right front wheel and tire assembly.
25. Remove right front inner splash shield.
26. Support and lower engine by lowering crossmember enough to gain access to crankshaft pulley bolts.
27. Remove crankshaft pulley, then raise engine and crossmember.
28. Remove engine support, then lower vehicle.
29. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then remove engine to transaxle bolts and the engine from vehicle.
30. Reverse procedure to install.
