Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly and air intake duct.
2. Disconnect TV cable from throttle lever and transaxle.
3. Remove fluid level indicator and fill tube.
4. Install engine support fixture tool No. J-28467 and adapter No. J-35953, or equivalent.
5. Remove wire harness to transaxle attaching nut, then disconnect electrical connectors from speed sensor, [1][2]torque converter clutch, park/neutral and back-up lamp switch.
6. Disconnect shift linkage from transaxle, then remove the two top transaxle to engine attaching bolts, transaxle mount and bracket assembly.
7. Remove transaxle to vent pipe rubber hose, then the remaining upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
8. Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front wheels.
9. Remove shift linkage and bracket assembly from transaxial.
10. Install drive axle boot seal protectors No. J-34754 or equivalent on inner seals. Failure to install seal protectors can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
11. Remove LH splash shield, then both drive axles.
12. Remove transaxle mounting strut, then left stabilizer bar link pin bolt.
13. Remove left stabilizer bar frame bushing clamp attaching nuts, then the left frame support assembly.
14. Disconnect speedometer connector from transaxle.
15. Remove transaxle converter cover.
16. Scribe alignment marks on flexplate and torque converter, then remove torque converter to flexplate attaching bolts.
17. Remove transaxle cooler lines. Plug lines to prevent leakage or dirt from entering system.
18. Remove transaxle to engine support bracket, then position a suitable jack under transaxle.
19. Remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then lower transaxle from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque control assembly to 18 ft lbs.; fill tube to 20 ft lbs.; flywheel cover to 89 inch lbs.; flywheel-to-torque converter to 46 ft lbs.; park/neutral/back-up lamp switch to 22 ft. lbs.; strut bracket-to-transaxle to 40 ft lbs.; torsional strut to 50 ft lbs.; transaxle brace to 32 ft lbs.; transaxle control lever to 15 ft. lbs.; transaxle mount bolt to 40 ft lbs.; transaxle mount nuts to 23 ft. lbs.; transaxle mount through bolt to 82 ft. Lbs.; transaxle-to-engine 55 ft lbs.
