Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly and air intake duct.
2. Disconnect T.V. cable from throttle lever and transaxle.
3. Remove fluid lever indicator and fill tube.
4. Install engine support fixture J-28467 and adapter J-35953, or equivalent.
5. Remove wire harness-to-transaxle attaching nut, then disconnect electrical connectors from speed sensor, TCC connector, park/neutral and back-up lamp switch.
6. Disconnect shift linkage from transaxle, then remove the two top transaxle-to-engine attaching bolts, transaxle mount and bracket assembly.
7. Remove transaxle-to-vent pipe rubber hose, then the remaining upper engine-to-transaxle attaching bolts.
8. Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front wheels.
9. Remove shift linkage and bracket assembly from transaxle.
10. Install drive axle boot seal protectors J-34754 or equivalent on inner seals. Failure to install seal protectors can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
11. Remove lefthand splash shield, then both drive axles.
12. Remove transaxle mounting strut, then left stabilizer bar link pin bolt.
13. Remove left stabilizer bar frame bushing clamp attaching nuts, then the left frame support assembly.
14. Disconnect speedometer connector from transaxle.
15. Remove transaxle converter cover.
16. Scribe alignment marks on flexplate and torque converter, then remove torque converter-to-flexplate attaching bolts.
17. Remove transaxle cooler lines. Plug lines to prevent leakage or dirt from entering the system.
18. Remove transaxle-to-engine support bracket, then position a suitable jack under transaxle.
19. Remove remaining engine-to-transaxle attaching bolts, then lower transaxle from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install noting then following:
a. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Specifications/Mechanical chart.
b. Readjust T.V. cable and shift linkage.
c. Check for proper oil level and leaks.
d. Check front suspension alignment.
