Engine: Service and Repair
1. On models equipped with airbag, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support front of vehicle, then disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold.
4. Remove flywheel cover, then disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at oil pan.
5. Remove lefthand engine mount through bolt, then loosen righthand bolt.
6. Remove flywheel to torque converter attaching bolts.
7. Remove flywheel housing to engine attaching bolts.
8. Disconnect converter clutch control wiring harness at transmission.
9. Disconnect knock sensor electrical connector.
10. Wrap shop towel around fuel hose to steel line connection to prevent fuel spillage, then disconnect fuel hoses from lines at frame.
11. Remove lower fan shroud.
12. Disconnect electrical wiring from starter motor.
13. Lower vehicle, then disconnect ECM wiring harness at engine.
14. Disconnect electrical wiring and vacuum hoses as necessary to permit engine removal. Tag electrical wiring and vacuum hoses so the may be installed at the same locations.
15. Remove air cleaner, then remove upper fan shroud.
16. Disconnect throttle and T.V. cables at throttle body.
17. Drain cooling system, then disconnect radiator and heater hoses.
18. Remove A/C compressor from mounting and position aside with refrigerant hoses attached.
19. Remove power steering pump from mounting and position aside with refrigerant hoses attached.
20. Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines from radiator.
21. Remove coolant recovery system bottle.
22. Remove radiator.
23. Remove alternator adjusting bracket.
24. Disconnect heater hoses from intake manifold bracket.
25. Disconnect battery cable from frame.
26. Scribe alignment marks on hinges, then remove hood.
27. Disconnect battery ground cable from lefthand cylinder head.
28. Disconnect AIR pipe at exhaust manifold.
29. Disconnect AIR hose from AIR pipe at converter.
30. Support transmission using a suitable jack.
31. Attach suitable engine lifting fixture to engine, then remove engine from vehicle.
32. Reverse procedure to install.
33. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
