Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable and discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
3. Disconnect evaporator core inlet and outlet refrigerant lines. Cap lines and outlets.
4. Remove expansion tube from evaporator inlet pipe using tool No. J26549-D or equivalent.
5. Pull hood seal from A/C module flange and area above air screen.
6. Remove air inlet screen attaching screws and air inlet screen.
7. Remove righthand windshield wiper arm.
8. Detach A/C module ground strap from dash panel.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from A/C module upper case components.
10. Remove upper A/C module attaching screws, then remove A/C module upper case, Fig. 29.
11. Remove evaporator core clamp, then lift evaporator core from case.
12. Reverse procedure to install. When installing, ensure evaporator core seal remain properly positioned. After completing installation, add three ounces of refrigerant oil and recharge A/C system.
13. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
