Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Procedure

1. Disconnect negative battery cable and loosen fuel filler cap to relieve tank vapor pressure.

2. Raise vehicle.

3. Remove fuel filter bracket bolt.

4. Grasp filter and one fuel line fitting and twist quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within fitting. Repeat for other fuel line fitting.

5. Using compressed air blow out dirt from quick-connect fittings at both ends of fuel filter.

NOTICE: Safety glasses must be worn when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.

6. Squeeze plastic tabs of quick-connect fitting and pull connection apart. Repeat for fitting on opposite end of filter and discard filter.

NOTICE: A small amount of fuel may be released when servicing fuel lines or connections. In order to reduce the chance of personal injury, cover fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnection, to catch any fuel that may leak out. Place towel in an approved container when disconnection is completed.

7. Remove protective caps from filter and bracket assembly contained in service kit. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both tube ends of filter.

8. Position filter and bracket as shown in illustration and orientate retainers on filter inlet and discharge tubes to align correctly with connectors.

9. Push connectors onto filter tubes causing the retainers to snap into place in connectors. Once installed, pull on each connector to insure connection is secure.

10. Position bolt through filter bracket, and then install lock tooth washer, contained in service kit, onto bolt (washer should be between bracket and frame).

11. Secure filter and bracket assembly to frame rail torquing bolt to 10 N-m (7.5 lb.ft.) insuring fuel return line and filter are in proper position as shown in illustration (View A).

12. Connect negative battery cable and tighten fuel tank filler cap.

13. Start vehicle, inspect for fuel leaks and correct as required.

14. Lower vehicle and install Campaign Identification Label.
