Figure No. 1:

Owners of 1985 through early 1990 J-cars and 1988 through early 1990 L-cars equipped with 2.8L or 3.1L V6 engines with automatic transmission may notice a rattling or clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. This noise is more apparent when the engine is cold and usually goes away as the engine warms up.

The above noise may be due to the torque converter shield. This warped shield may interfere with the flywheel.

A torque converter shield currently used on the W-car has been released for use on the 2.8L and 3.1L J and L car. See Figure on next page.
