Subject: NOISE/VIBRATION DURING COOLING FAN OPERATION


Model and Year: 1989-91 CAVALIER


Application: 1989 Cavalier with 2.8L (VIN W)
1990-91 Cavalier with 3.1L (VIN T)

Condition: Cooling fan noise (rumble/booming) is heard in passenger compartment. Vibration is felt within car through the seats, floor pan and steering wheel.

Cause: "Harmonic" vibration between the cooling fan assembly and vehicle structure.

Correction: Replace the cooling fan and motor assembly. Replace parts according to the part numbers listed in the "Parts Information" below.

IMPORTANT: Both parts MUST be replaced.

Service Procedure:

Refer to Section 6B for Cooling Fan and Motor replacement.

Note: The threads attaching the fan to the motor are LEFT handed threads.
