Radio/Stereo: Service and Repair



When installing radio, be sure to adjust antenna trimmer for peak reception. Also, be sure to connect speaker before applying power to radio.

Radio Control
1. To avoid personal injury when servicing models equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System, temporarily disarm system. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove transmission gear selector knob.
4. Remove console trim plate attaching screws from under ash tray.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from console trim plate components, then remove trim plate.
6. Remove screw attaching center air outlet to instrument panel carrier, then remove outlet.
7. Remove screws attaching accessory trim plate to instrument panel.
8. Disconnect electrical connector to engine power switch, then remove accessory trim plate.
9. Remove console door.
10. Remove screws attaching console right hand side trim panel to instrument panel and console. Remove passenger seat from vehicle to gain access to screws at side of trim panel. After all attaching screws have been removed, remove side trim panel.
11. Remove screws attaching radio control to instrument panel.
12. Pull radio control outward, then disconnect electrical connectors and remove radio control.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
14. After completing service procedure activate Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.

Radio Receiver
1. To avoid personal injury when servicing models equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System, temporarily disarm system. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove screws attaching lower right hand trim panel to instrument panel and support.
4. Disconnect courtesy lamp electrical connector and air dust, then remove lower right hand trim panel.
5. Remove radio receiver front attaching nut and loosen side mounting nuts.
6. Slide radio receiver forward to release tab, then disconnect electrical connectors and antenna lead.
7. Remove radio receiver.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
9. After completing service procedure activate Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Airbag) System. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
