Impact Sensor: Service and Repair


Left Sensor
1. Deactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION.
2. Remove battery, ECM and ECM support.
3. Remove sensor mounting bolts then disconnect sensor electrical connector and remove sensor from vehicle.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install sensor with arrow pointing toward front of vehicle.
b. Torque mounting bolts to 11 ft. lbs.
c. Following installation, activate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.
d. Turn ignition switch to the On position and verify the ``Inflatable Restraint'' indicator flashes 7 to 9 times then turns Off. If indicator does not respond, refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURE/TESTING PROCEDURES/RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES.

Right Sensor
1. Deactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION.
2. Remove six front RH rocker panel retaining screws.
3. Remove right side front fender gill panel retaining bolts, then the fender.
4. Peel back rear portion of wheelwell to hood seal.
5. Remove right side lower wheelwell retaining bolts, then the wheelwell.
6. Remove two front windshield washer reservoir retaining bolts, then loosen remaining washer reservoir bolt.
7. Rotate reservoir to access sensor.
8. Remove sensor retaining bolts, then disconnect sensor electrical connector.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install sensor with arrow pointing toward front of vehicle.
b. Torque mounting bolts to 11 ft. lbs.
c. Torque reservoir mounting bolts to 54 inch lbs.
d. Torque wheelwell to frame bolts to 80 inch lbs.
e. Following installation, activate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.
f. Turn ignition switch to the On position and verify proper operation of ``INFL REST'' lamp.
