Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect TV cable at upper end, then remove transmission oil dipstick.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. On convertible models, remove upper and lower underbody braces.
5. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable or P.M. generator electrical connector, shift linkage, and all electrical leads at transmission as well as any clips that retain the leads to transmission case.
6. Remove flywheel cover, then mark flywheel and torque converter to maintain original balance. Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts and/or nuts.
7. Remove exhaust system.
8. Install suitable jack under transmission, then raise transmission slightly.
9. Remove driveline beam and propeller shaft.
10. Lower transmission to gain access to the oil cooler lines and TV cable attachments, then disconnect oil cooler lines and TV cable and cap all openings.
11. Support engine using suitable jack, then remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
12. Separate transmission assembly from engine, install torque converter holding fixture tool, No. J-21366, then lower transmission from vehicle.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
