Removal & Installation
TRANSMISSION REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONZF S6-40 6-Speed Manual Transmission:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Center air outlet.
3. Console trim plate.
4. Accessory trim plate.
5. Control lever button.
6. Shift lever knob retainer and knob.
7. Shift lever finger grip and set screw.
8. Center console trim plate.
9. Shift lever snap spring.
10. Shifter retainer nuts.
11. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
12. Complete exhaust assembly.
13. Front exhaust pipe hanger bracket from transmission.
14. Propeller shaft.
15. Support transmission with a suitable jack.
16. Drive line support beam nuts and bolts.
17. Beam from vehicle.
18. Electrical connectors from.
^ Speed sensor.
^ Backup lamp switch.
^ Shift solenoid.
19. Transmission to clutch housing bolts.
20. Transmission from vehicle.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Transmission into vehicle.
2. Transmission to clutch housing bolts.
TIGHTEN
^ Transmission to clutch housing bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb. ft.). (Refer to image for torque sequence.)
3. Electrical connectors onto:
^ Speed sensor.
^ Backup lamp switch.
^ Shift solenoid.
4. Driveline support beam.
5. Beam bolts and nuts.
TIGHTEN
^ Driveline support beam to differential carrier bolts to 80 Nm (60 lb. ft.).
^ Driveline support beam to transmission bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb. ft.).
6. Propeller shaft.
7. Remove transmission support jack.
8. Check transmission oil level and fill if necessary.
IMPORTANT
^ When checking Oil level, transmission should be in horizontal position and filled to point of overflow.
9. Front exhaust pipe hanger bracket to transmission.
TIGHTEN
^ Front exhaust pipe hanger bracket to transmission bolts to 54 Nm (40 lb. ft.).
10. Complete exhaust system.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Shifter retainer nuts.
13 Shift lever snap ring.
14. Center console trim plate.
15. Shift lever finger grip (tighten set screw).
16. Shift lever knob and retainer.
17. Control lever button.
18. Accessory trim plate.
19. Console trim plate.
20. Center air outlet.
21. Negative battery cable.
