THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 91-17-1B, DATED MAY 1990. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE SCREW HAS BEEN CORRECTED. ALL COPIES OF 91-17-1B SHOULD BE DISCARDED.

CONDITION:





Broken pedestal attachment on the HVAC module for the temperature control cable, see Figure 1.

CAUSE:

The end of the pedestal could be broken when trying to remove the HVAC control head from the dash, without first disconnecting the temperature control cable at the module.

CORRECTION:

Fabricate new metal mounting plate for the temperature control cable attachment, using the following parts and procedure.

PROCEDURE:

1. Remove and disconnect the temperature control cable, using the service procedure specified in the Service Manual on Pages 1B-42 and 43.





2. Fabricate the mounting plate, using the piece of sheet metal and the template shown in Figure 4. File off the sharp edges of the plate.

IMPORTANT:
The hole locations in the mounting plate are critical. The outline of the mounting plate may vary within the outlines shown in Figure 4.





3. Drill a 1/8 in. diameter hole in the red clip on the temperature control cable, as shown in Figure 2.





4. Mount the control cable to the plate, using the hole in the cable clip and the hole in the end of the plate, as shown in Figure 3. Tighten the screw up enough to allow the cable clip to rotate on the plate.

5. Mount the plate and control cable to the mounting bosses, indicated in Figure 1. When finished the plate and cable should be as shown in Figure 3.

6. Follow the install and connect procedure in the Service Manual Pages 1B-42 and 43 to complete the operation.
