Engine Removal

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, always relieve fuel system pressure prior to disconnecting fuel system components.

1. Relieve fuel line pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure for fuel pressure bleed procedure. Service and Repair

2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect battery cables.
4. Drain engine coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
5. Remove transaxle cooler lines at radiator.
6. Remove transaxle fluid level indicator and tube.
7. Remove upper radiator hose from engine and pull back.
8. Remove lower radiator hose from engine and pull back.
9. Remove heater outlet hose from water pump.
10. Remove heater inlet hose at rear of engine.
11. Remove serpentine belt. Refer to Drive Belt / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
12. Remove shift cable linkage and cable from from mounting bracket.

NOTE If necessary, put transaxle in low gear for accessibility.

13. Remove throttle and cruise control cable (if equipped ) from throttle linkage. Refer to Components / Accelerator Controls, Engine Compartment under Throttle Cable/Linkage. Locations
14. Remove A/C pressure switch electrical connector.
15. Remove vacuum check valve at power brake booster.
16. Remove cannister purge vacuum line at engine.
17. Remove upper wiring from engine. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
18. Remove vacuum hose at vacuum reservoir.
19. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
24. Remove tire and wheel assemblies.
25. Remove right engine splash shield.
26. Remove oil filter.
27. Remove lower wiring on engine. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
28. Remove A/C compressor leaving rear bracket attached to compressor and hang from body.
29. Remove exhaust down pipe from crossover.
35. Remove brake hose bracket at strut.
36. Remove brake calipers. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control / Brakes / Disc Brake System / Brake Caliper / Service and Repair. Brake Caliper
37. Remove tie rods from struts. Refer to Steering and Suspension / Steering / Tie Rod End / Service and Repair. Steering
35. Remove transaxle mount.
36. Lower vehicle enough to place engine/transaxle table under assembly.
37. Lower table with powertrain.
38. Raise vehicle.
39. Remove engine and transaxle assembly.
