Secondary Throttle Valve: Service and Repair

Intake Plenum Chamber:

Secondary Port Throttle Valve Actuator And Linkage:

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold plenum.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the actuator.
4. Remove the linkage retaining clip at the actuator plunger.
5. Remove the actuator retaining nuts.
6. Remove the actuator.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install the actuator and attaching nuts, and tighten to 6.0 Nm (53 lb.in).
2. Install the linkage retaining clip at the actuator plunger.
3. Connect the vacuum hose to the actuator.
4. Check actuator and linkage for proper operation.
^ Tool required: J 23738-A or BT-8334 - Hand Operated Vacuum Pump or equivalent.
a. Apply 20" Hg vacuum to the actuator; the plunger should retract, and the linkage should operate freely.
b. Release the vacuum; the actuator plunger should extend, and the linkage should operate freely.
5. Install the intake manifold plenum.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
