Engine: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect
1. Battery cables from the battery.
2. Air cleaner.
^ Drain the radiator.
3. Radiator hoses.
4. Upper fan shroud.
5. Engine cooling fan.
6. Radiator.
7. Heater hoses at the engine.
8. Power steering pump.
9. Air conditioning compressor, if equipped.
10. Accelerator and TV cables.
11. Necessary vacuum hoses.
12. ECM engine wiring harness.
13. Engine wiring harness at the engine bulkhead and any other wires between the body and the engine.
14. Ground strap at the engine bulkhead.
15. Hood.
16. Distributor.
17. Wiper motor.
18. Cruise control cable.
19. MAP sensor.
20. Battery negative cable from the cylinder head. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
21. Battery positive cable and wires at the starter motor.
22. Crossover pipe and catalytic converter as an assembly.
23. Flywheel cover.
24. Torque converter-to-flywheel bolts.
25. Engine mounting through bolts.
26. Front fuel hoses from the front fuel pipes.
27. Transmission converter clutch wiring at the transmission.
28. Transmission oil cooler lines at the clip on the oil pan.
29. Catalytic converter AIR pipe at exhaust manifold (V6).
30. Transmission to engine bolts.
^ Lower the vehicle.
^ Support the transmission.
^ Install a lifting device onto the engine.
31. Engine.
^ Mount the engine on a stand.
^ Drain the crankcase.
^ Drain the engine block.
Install or Connect
Engine in reverse order of removal with the following exceptions:
^ Fill the crankcase with the proper amount and grade of oil and the cooling system with the proper coolant, after all other installation operations have been completed.
^ Check engine and related systems for proper operation and for fluid leaks.
