Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove air intake duct, then disconnect electrical connectors and vacuum lines from upper part of engine.
3. Disconnect upper radiator hose at water pump and throttle body coolant hose at radiator tee.
4. Disconnect lower radiator hose and heater hose from water pump.
5. Disconnect coolant hose from right hand side of throttle body.
6. Disconnect pressure hose from power steering pump.
7. Remove alternator upper brace.
8. Remove center panel from left hand wheel well.
9. Remove serpentine drive belt.
10. Remove A/C compressor from mounting bracket and position aside with refrigerant lines attached.
11. Disconnect electrical connector from windshield wiper motor, then remove cover.
12. Disconnect hose from AIR diverter valve.
13. Relieve fuel system pressure as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE then disconnect and cap fuel lines at fuel rail.
14. Disconnect hose from power steering reservoir.
15. Disconnect accelerator, cruise control, throttle valve and traction control cables.
16. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect wiring from starter motor.
17. Disconnect catalytic converters from exhaust manifolds.
18. On models with manual transmission, remove transmission as described under transmission replace.
19. On models with automatic transmission, drive plate to converter attaching bolts.
20. On models with manual transmission, remove pressure plate and clutch disk, then remove flywheel.
21. On all models, disconnect ground leads at rear of engine.
22. Disconnect electrical connectors from coolant temperature sensor, oil pressure sender, oil level indicator and knock sensor.
23. Remove nuts from engine mount studs, then lower vehicle.
24. Install suitable engine lifting device.
25. Ensure all components that would interfere with engine removal are detached, then lift engine from vehicle.
26. Reverse procedure to install.
